KENNEDY / ROBERTS

Ewprichard@aol.com

Seeking information on the family of J. M. KENNEDY and Regina ROBERTS, who resided in Lake Providence, E. Carroll Par., from about 1866, where they and most of their children are buried. He was a lawyer and later judge. They married in 1866 in East Feliciana Parish. I am particularly interested in her parentage, for I believe she was the granddaughter of Henry Dunn F. ROBERTS, a Baptist preacher in that parish in the 1830s. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you. E. W. Prichard

ANDREWS

Thomas L Andrews, a Clinton attorney in the 1830's, was a brother of Elisha Andrews (d 1827 but married til then to Jane G McKinley Andrews Fishburn) who founded the Jackson Female Institute or Seminary in the 1820's, and Stephen Pearl Andrews, (The 3 brothers made there way to the Jackson and Clinton areas of La from Hinsdale, New Hampshire). TLA married Louisa Tyson, a student at the Jackson Female Institute, in the early 1830's. Thomas L Andrews and Louisa Tyson Andrews lived in adjacent the Clinton Courthouse in the home that became known as the Chase Naumann House in the 1830's. They moved in the early 1840's to Looking Glass Prairie, Illinois, where they died young in the mid 1840's. Thomas L Andrews and Louisa Tyson Andrews left 5 children who may have been from ages 15 to 2 when their parents died. They may have been raised back in the NE or possibly Hinsdale, NH. These children are the cousins of the children of William Allen Lane of Clinton who was married to first one Tyson sister, Mary Catherine, and upon her death in 1835, to another Tyson sister, Ann Naomi. The Lane children and the Andrews children stayed in touch until the 1890's when the evidence of contacts dries up. Here are the names and details on the Andrews children that I ask for any information of:
Elizabeth Ann Lane Andrews-never married. Taught school in Mississippi in the 1850's. Moved back to Perth Amboy, New Jersey and was alive as late as 1895
Jane or Jennie Andrews-married the NY writer and co-author with Stephen Pearl Andrews, Oliver Dyer-lived in Brooklyn, NY-Died, I think, in 1867 leave Lowell Dyer, an artist who moved to France, Oliver Jr., Jennie, Alice, and Lizzie, a bookkeeper in Boston
Mary Elisa Andrews-married Gordon Bartlett-daughter Louisa married a Wyatt and had a son, Pearl who married and moved to Florida. Also had a daughter who married a Younger and may have lived in Beverly Farms, Mass
Rhobe Andrews-married a Walker and lived in Calif. Had Lathrop living in Oakland, Cal, and Hattie who married a Farnum and had a child Launcelot who married a Minabelle who had a child Minabelle June and lived in Los Angeles
Elisha Andrews III-ran away to sea and became a captain on vessels on the Atlantic Coast and then in the Pacific. He married the daughter of the Chief of the Friendly Islands, which is now Tonga in the South Pacific.
Any information or leads would be greatly appreciated. We have some pictures and many letters involving these persons, but as noted, our evidence of contacts stops in the 1890's.Thank you.

I have been searching for over six years for him and cannot locate his place of birth anywhere. SKS named Anna found a Leo DANGERUY/DANGIRUX in the East Feliciana Census born in May 1887. I am wondering if there could be any connection to this family. Any information anyone may have would be gratefully accepted.

My grandparents, Eliza Jane Crowder Parttridge and William Jack Parttridge moved from Mississippi with their family to East Feliciana Parish around 1906 and left only following the death of my grandfather of pneumonia in 1923. The family returned to Mississippi by covered wagon. He owned and operated a blacksmith shop near the Bluff Creek community, and during that time patented what he called a "seed gatherer" (it operated like a combine) in 1921. The patent shows that the community he lived in was called "Sunbeam." Does anyone know where this community is located? Have been unable to find anything about Sunbeam. Also, does anyone know anyone who might have known my grandparents during that time?? I would really like to correspond with someone who might have known someone who knew them.

HARRELL / SMITH
Sylvia Smith
saks@huntcom.net

My husband's father descended from Seaborn Smith and Pauline Harrell. Seaborn and Pauline had several children. Among them were: Seaborn Scott Smith (who died at about age 4 in 1909. He was their firstborn; Thomas Smith; L.D. Smith, Samuel Harrell Smith, Jr. (my deceased father-in-law); and Evelyn Lorena Smith. My guess is that Pauline and Seaborn were married around 1903 or 04.
Samuel Harrell Smith, Sr., is the object of my concern-- or his parents. Samuel Harrell Smith, Sr., was born July 22, 1879 in Gilead, LA. I just learned that Gilead was in East Feliciana Parish. Possibly the 1860 - 1880 census tables could help answer my questions: Who were the parents of Pauline Harrell? My guess is that her parents married around 1875. Who were the parents of Seaborn Smith?
I do know that at least three of Seaborn and Pauline's children married the children of Thomas Courtney Pennington and Augusta Elizabeth Sample. Can you help me at all? Even telling me where to look would be helpful. I would appreciate "any" help you can provide.

I am looking for information on the Bunch family from Bluff Creek (east of Clinton). I know that there are still quite a few who live in and around Clinton today. I am interested in all as I am doing research on my grandmother's family. My grandmother was Bertha Louisa Bunch DeLaughter. She was born Dec. 13, 1913. She married James Henry DeLaughter, who was ordained as a minister at the old Bluff Creek Baptist Church. They adopted my mother, Eleanor Cecilia DeLaughter, in November 1946 & were living in Denham Springs at the time. I am most interested in information before they moved to DS, as far back as I can go. I know that there were 10 children in the family & only 1 is still living. My great aunt Kate Bunch Bankston is now 95.
Any information relating to this family will greatly be appreciated. Thank you, Linda Beattie May

MORRIS and they had 9 children: Eddie, Florence Annie, Ollie, Nellie, Andrew, Whitney, Pearlie (Pearl), Rosa Morris, Ulyis, and Nelson. RHODES
Kent McMahan
KMcMahan.Louisville@worldnet.att.net
7/31/02
Henry Rhodes was listed in the 1830 E. Feliciana Parish census as age 20-30 with a female, presumably his wife, also age 20-30, with 2 other females - one 15-20 and the other 70-80. His and his wife's estate, both deceased, was probated in E. Feliciana 8/15/1840. His wife was named Asenath P. Warner. Their heirs were Louisa Amanda Rhodes and Nathaniel Green Rhodes (both minors represented by tutor John Sims) and Tabitha Asenath Warner, a minor represented by her father William Warner. Asenath was the widow of Henry Rhodes (he died ABT 1836) when she married William Dudley Jones Warner in E. Feliciana Parish on 14 Feb 1837. She appears to have died during the birth of their daughter Tabitha Asenath Warner, my ancestor, b. 27 Dec 1837. Tabitha and her father may be included in the household of Tabitha (Cargill) Warner in the 1840 Washington Parish census. I'm trying to learn who were the parents of Asenath. I recently found that an Asenath P. Lyles, d/o Valentine Lyles and Drucilla Sims, is said to have married a Henry Rhodes. Her father's household is listed in the 1820 Feliciana Parish census headed by Volintine Lile. Her mother's household is listed in the 1830 E. Feliciana Parish census headed by Drucilla Lyle with a 50-60 aged female (likely Drucilla) and including a 15-20 aged male. Does anyone have a Louisiana marriage record for Henry and Asenath Rhodes? Any other info regarding this couple and their parents would be greatly appreciated.
