What follows are
detailed statistics for the Madison Parish LAGenWeb website for the year 2014.
Less-detailed statistics are included for the years 2010-2014.
15-Year Graph showing the weekly and
cumulative visits (“hits”) to the Madison Parish LAGenWeb site – the Primary
Site
Between 2000 and 2015 the weekly visits, commonly known as “hits”, to
the Madison Parish LAGenWeb
website varied from a low of about 40 per week to a high of 250 per week during
the 2011 flood period. Each “hit” represents one visit per day to the website’s
Home Page.
To be counted hits from the same IP address must be at least one hour apart.
Visits to additional pages on the website are not counted.
At the beginning of the year 2000, the average (yellow line) number of
visits per week was about 50. By the end of 2014 this rate had increased to
about 100. During 2014 there were 5862
visits, although none were counted when the website was down for a two-week
period during June.

This interesting graph
shows the increased popularity of Edward Haas’ 1982 story of the 1899
Tallulah Lynchings after Donna Jo Napoli’s version (Alligator Bayou) was published in March 2008.
Haas’ story is factual history. However the Napoli book is highly fictionalized
and unauthentic.

During
2014 189 visitors from 122 different cities in 38 different foreign countries
viewed data on the Madison Parish LAGenWeb. Note that the 2008 figures below
also include data from the LAArchives site, whereas the 2009 - 2014 numbers are
for the LAGenWeb site only.

It is really surprising that so many people
from overseas would be interested in Madison Parish. The reason for most
searches was not apparent because, once the website was entered; it was hard to
identify which pages were actually visited. Many identifiable searches were for
information on the
Battle of Milliken’s Bend (about 9% of the total LAGenWeb) which
occurred on June 7, 1863. Many others were interested in cemetery data,
especially obituaries. Some even visited the Tallulah High School photo
section.
US Visits
During
2014 people from every state in the union except Montana and Rhode Island
searched for information on Madison Parish. The table below shows the state,
number of different cities and the total number of U. S. cities from which
inquiries have been received. Although the total number of US searches was
5,862, it should be noted that 224 (3.8%) came from unknown locations. The
total number of unique US cities was 981. For 2014 the five top states in
number of visitors were: Louisiana (1449 – 24.7%), Texas (772- 13.2%),
California (400 – 6.8%), Tennessee (313 – 5.3%), and Massachusetts (228 –
3.9%), and The top five states in terms of number of different cities were:
Texas (107 - 10.9%), Louisiana (97 - 9.9%), California (87 – 8.9 %), New York
58 (5.9%) and Florida (50 - 5.1%). The US data is tabulated below:

genealogical or historical information about Madison Parish. This
included 5,862 visits, on which 224

unidentified, and thus are not shown in the tables. In addition to the
unidentified cities and states, no visits are ever recorded when a Madison web
sub-site is accessed directly by bypassing the “Home Page” sites or sub-sites
that are not monitored. A good example of this is an article in the “Articles
of Historic Interest” section which had almost 2900 visits in 2009 - none of
which are recorded above. Also, many people have their computers set not to be
recognized by statistical services, and therefore have not been counted. In
addition, America Online (AOL) and AT&T seldom report a city name.
