From Monroe News-Star
October 11, 2016
Thomas Wayne (Tommy) Bishop
Services for
Thomas Wayne (Tommy) Bishop will be Wednesday, October 12, at 1:00 P.M. at the
Tallulah Presbyterian Church with visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. Tommy
passed away Sunday, October 9, in Houston, Texas, while valiantly battling
cancer. He was a devoted husband to his wife of fifty years, Carolyn (Tinker)
Bishop; a loving father of Carolyn Bishop Frederick and husband Kevin, Cheryl
Bishop Mayronne and husband Paul, Bonnie Kate Bishop
Kitchen and husband Boyd; and the proud grandfather of Thomas, John Taft, and
Henry Frederick; Anna Ruth, Maggie, and Caroline Mayronne;
Will, Mary Miller, and Hayes Kitchen. He was preceded in death by his parents
Twiggs and Verna Mae Bishop.
Tommy, a lifelong resident of Tallulah, graduated from Tallulah High School and
received his B.S. degree and Juris Doctorate from
LSU. Following graduation, he was an initial part of the 19th Judicial District
Court's Bail Bond program before returning to Tallulah to begin a long,
successful career combining his two passions-the law and farming. He was the
senior partner of Sevier, Yerger, and Bishop and co-founder of Tucker Bishop
Farms. He was a member of the Louisiana Bar and admitted to practice in the
Federal Western District Court. He was Municipal Judge for the City of
Tallulah, a First American Title Insurance Agent, a member of the Board of Directors
of Guaranty Bank and Trust Company, a Director of Southern Fidelity Insurance
Company, a director and Vice-President of the Madison Parish Soil and Water
Conservation District. He was a founding member of both the Northeast Farmers'
Classic and Madison Parish Toys for Tots. He was an active member, Elder and a
Trustee of the Tallulah Presbyterian Church. He was actively involved in
numerous civic organizations and a former long-standing board member of both
Tallulah Academy and the Tallulah Country Club. Tommy was a skilled, avid
hunter and a loyal TA and LSU sports fan.
Pallbearers are Darryl Ellerbee, Brian Johnson, Todd Beene, Edwin Moberley, Trey Tucker, Taft Tucker, and Steven
Grady. Burial will be in Silver Cross Cemetery.
Tommy is survived by his brother Malcolm and wife Sandra and their
children as well as countless friends spanning many years and miles. Tommy will
be long remembered for his infectious smile, his quick, witty gentle jabs, his
teasing charm, and his unbridled love of life, people, and good times.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the Tallulah
Presbyterian Church, pilotsforpatients.org or the Pancreatic Cancer Research
Fund at pcrf.org.
