Dennis L. Black of Dunn,
Louisiana died Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Services are Friday, March 6, 2015 at
11:00 a.m. at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home, Tallulah, Louisiana. Visitation
is Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Friday, March 6,
2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home, Tallulah, Louisiana.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tallulah, Louisiana, under the
direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Mr. Black
was a retired teacher from Richland Parish School District, and a retired Air
Force Senior Master Sergeant, having served from 1958 until 1979, including a
tour of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award,
Non-Commissioned Officer Academy Recognition, Air Force Longevity Service Award
with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal
with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal, Air Force
Good Conduct Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry
Cross with Palm, Bronze Star Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Air
Force Commendation Medal. He was a life-long member of Dunn Church of God, a
strong supporter of Louisiana Association of Educators, and an avid LSU and
Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mary A. Black, three brothers,
James G. Black, Julian T. Black and Mickal J. Black,
and one grandson, Travis Patrick Black. Left to cherish his memory is his wife,
Mary J. Black, daughter Carole Snyder and husband Joe, son Dennis L. Black,
Jr., son Stephen P. Black and wife Lisa, and son Karl Black, eight
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers
will be special friend of the family, Jay Skeldon,
and grandsons Craig Gilbert, Jr., Adam Gilbert, Bryan Black, Trent Black and
Paul Black.
