Dorothy Lewis Boney -
Madison Parish, Louisiana
From Vicksburg
Herald, January 18, 1913
TALLULAH - The regrettable news
reached Vicksburg yesterday morning from Duckport, La., that Dorothy Boney, the
11 year old daughter of Mr. And Mrs. R. K. Boney
who had suffered with meningitis the past week, died at 11 o'clock. The grief
stricken parents had felt hopeful through the fact that their beloved daughter
had spent a most restful night, and seemed to improve, but a sudden turn for
the worse came yesterday morning early, and death soon relieved the suffering
of the youthful patient.
When little Dorothy
contracted the disease early last week, Dr. Street left here upon a launch,
accompanied by a lady nurse, and upon his return, it was learned that the child
had been at her home continually, and the source of infection could not be
traced. At periods the disease showed a decided change for better and worse,
and on Thursday the child became seriously ill, but rallied again in the
afternoon.
Mr. And Mrs. Boney,
who are well known and have numerous friends in the city, have the sympathy of
many in their sad bereavement.
Death was thought to
have been caused directly by paralysis of the heart, or respiratory nerves. The
funeral arrangements were necessarily made private, due to the nature of the
child's illness.
