Dr. Robert A.
"Al" Carter September 15, 1931 - September 13, 2016 Bonaire, GA.-
Dr. Robert "Al" Carter, 84,
went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday September 13, 2016.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, 11:00 AM in
the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Father Scott Petersen will
officiate. Family will greet friends following the service.
Dr. Carter was born
on September 15, 1931 in Tallulah, Louisiana, to the late Louis H. and Mitilene Carter. He served his country in the United States
Marine Corps and graduated from UGA and was a huge "Dawgs"
fan. Dr. Carter was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church. He served as a
Physician for 37 years at Houston Medical Center where he was the Chief of
Staff for several years. Dr. Carter was also the President of the Optimist
Club, a lifetime member of the Moody Road Lodge, and a lifetime member of the
Museum of Aviation. He was an avid fishermen, gardener, and golfer with a
longtime membership at Houston Lake Country Club. Dr. Carter spent a
significant amount of time following Fox News. He was a loving husband, father,
and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all. His family was most
important in his life and made sure to spend time with all of them. "Al"
also enjoyed spending time with special friends.
Dr. Carter is
preceded in death by his brother, John Carter; sister, Gaile
Carter; and first wife, Betty Garrison Carter. He is survived by his wife,
Valerie Carter; three sons, Robert Carter, Jr of Kentucky, David (Deborah)
Carter of Cumming, and Coleman Louis (Marcie) Carter of Valdosta; two
daughters, Melanie (Dr. John) Rathbun of Savannah,
and Audrey (Joey) Jones of Savannah; and grandchildren, Carter, Brit, Kristi,
Dillon, Allie, Howell, Tyler, Austin, Ryan, Raine,
Jayden, and Lillie.
In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the All Saints Episcopal Church, 1708 Watson
Boulevard, Warner Robins, Georgia 31093 or of one's choice. Heritage Memorial
