Mrs. Verda
Mae "Mae-Mae" Copes, 92, a native of Pioneer and resident of Bay Minette, Ala., died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at a nursing
home in Bay Minette. Mrs. Copes was a former Senior
Olympian and was elected to the Louisiana Senior Olympic Hall of Fame. Mrs.
Copes previously resided in Tallulah and Denham Springs.
Survived by her two
sons, Fredrick Duane Copes and wife Jeanette, West Point, Miss., and Jerry
Walter Copes, Davis Island; daughter, Laura C. Pitre
and husband Richard, Bay Minette; sister, Inez Gawthorp, Cody, Wyo.; six grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents,
Charles and Laura Inez Prestridge; husband, Walter
Fredrick Copes; granddaughter, Charlam Renee Hopper;
four brothers and four sisters. A memorial service will be held at New Hope
Church of God, La. 577, west of Darnell, at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
