DAVIS, Mrs. Ruth El - Age
78, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Genesys
Health Park. Family hour 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Christ Fellowship
Missionary Baptist Church, 317 E. Hamilton Ave., with funeral service
commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Mark A. Jones, Sr. officiating. Interment River
Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the
church 10 a.m. Thursday. Mrs. Davis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence
E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed Thursday during family hour only.
Mrs. Ruth El Davis
was born August 19, 1932 in Tallulah,
Louisiana, the daughter of Samuel and Laura (Whittaker) Flournoy, Sr. Ruth was a resident of Flint and attended
Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. She also attended Mott Adult
Continuing Education graduating in 1977 with her GED. Ruth was united in Holy
Matrimony to Ponce Deleon Davis.
She was employed with
Flint Osteopathic Hospital, retiring in 1993. Ruth was also a member of the
Order of Eastern Stars (Rose of Sharon).
She leaves to cherish
her memory: daughters, Linda Richardson, Seretta
Davis and Phyllis Davis; grandchildren, Felicia Flourney,
Geri "Puggie" Richardson, Wantwaz Davis, William E. Davis, Avontay
Davis and DaQuaya Davis; great-grandchildren, Jaylon Miles, William D.C. Davis and Mercedes Harris;
sister, Gloria Cook; brothers, William Flenard, Rev.
Samuel Flournoy, Jr. and McKinley Flournoy;
sisters-in-law, Lizzie P. Davis, Ruth Davis, Ann "Sista"
Davis, Maidie Flenard and
Hattie Flournoy; brothers-in-law, John L. Davis, Sr.,
James "Fluzzy" Davis and Charles
"Pool" Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
friends including, Marsha Litszey, Madara Banks, Dianne Thornton, Momma Dell and Dorothy
Adams.
Mrs. Davis was
preceded in death by her husband, Ponce Deleon Davis; son, Craig Anthony Davis;
parents, Laura (Whittaker) Flournoy and Samuel Flournoy, Sr.; sister, Mary Forest; and sister-in-law,
Catherine Robinson..
