Peggy Cole Day passed away in
Alexandria, on November 12, 2011 at the age of 88. Funeral services will be
held on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Church, 4900 Jackson
Street Extension in Alexandria with Senior Pastor Robert (Bob) Vincent
officiating. Visitation with the family will be at the church for one hour
preceding the services. Burial will follow at Alexandria Memorial Gardens
Cemetery under the direction of John Kramer & Son. A native of Miami,
Florida, Peggy was born on August 21, 1923. After graduation from business
school, she joined Pan American Airways. There she met and married Herbert B. Day,
a native of Tallulah
upon completion of his naval service in World War II. They moved to Alexandria
in 1953. Peggy and Herbert were married for 47 years until his death in 1993.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward and Gertrude Marie
Cole, and her son-in-law, Paul Stewart Gravel.
Peggy was devoted to her family, her friends, her church, and her community. A
Cub Pack and Girl Scout leader, she volunteered at the Shepherd Center for
nearly twenty years. Peggy was one of the charter members of Jackson Street
Presbyterian Church now known as Grace and the Pineville Presbyterian Church.
The last seven years she served as an "unofficial ambassador" for
Kingsley Place (Emeritus).
Peggy is survived by her children, Mike and Nerine
Day of Alexandria, Jan Day Gravel of McLean, Virginia, grandson Ron Evenson, his wife Carolyn, and their children, Garrett and
Graeme of Geneva, Illinois and numerous special friends whose lives she
touched.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Robin Freedman for his special care and devotion
for his "Cub Scout Mom" as well as the dedicated doctors, nurses, and
staff of both Cabrini Hospital and Kingsley Place whose professionalism and
care supported our Mother on her final journey. In lieu of flowers, memorials
may be made to the CHRISTUS Cabrini Foundation, 3330 Masonic Drive, Alexandria,
LA 71301 or to the Shepherd Center, 1400 Jackson Street, P.O. Box 1963,
Alexandria, LA 71309.
