Inez Beam Engel - Madison Parish, Louisiana

Inez Beam Engel, of Sweeny, Texas, passed away on January 17, 2013. Inez was born in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, on November 26, 1927. She graduated salutatorian from Tallulah High School in Tallulah, Louisiana in 1945 and received a bachelor's degree in dietetics from Louisiana State University in 1949.

Inez was a registered dietitian and a member of the American Dietetic Association, the Texas Dietetic Association, the South Texas Dietetic Association, the American Society for Food Services Administrators, and the American Diabetes Association. She worked at the Sweeny Community Hospital for 29 years and for many years also served as dietitian at the Angleton-Danbury Hospital, the Brazosport Hospital, the Angleton-Danbury Dialysis Clinic, the Lake Jackson Nursing Home, the Leisure Lodge Nursing Home in Palacious, and the Cross Health Care Center in Clute. She also served as a dietitian preceptor for various university students. Inez was a frequent substitute school teacher in Sweeny.

She is survived by daughter Angela; Michael Craven; her grandchildren Christine, Andrew, Steven, Jon, Christopher, his wife Mili, and great-grandson Luka; son, Barry Engel and wife Susan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents, William Wiley and Mattie Elmira Beam, brothers Thomas Hurey Beam, Onnie Eustus Beam, William Rastus ("Rack") Beam, Nelce Beam, Aaron Beam, sister Estelle Anderson, and her loving husband of 53 years, John Harrison Engel.

Inez was a resident of Brazoria County for 60 years. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Sweeny, Texas, for over 50 years. She was active in numerous organizations, including El Modelo, AARP, Auxiliary of the Gideons International, and she was a past member of the Sweeny Garden Club.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Sweeny, Texas, at 2:00pm, Monday, January 21, 2013. Visitation will be held Sunday evening January 20, 2013 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

Pallbearers will be Barry Engel, Jon Engel Craven, Steven Engel Craven, Andrew Engel Craven, Christopher Engel Craven and Mike E. Craven.

Burial will be at the Montgomery Cemetery in Montgomery, Louisiana, at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 26, 2013.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the West Brazos Cares Food Bank, 1008 E. Ashley Wilson Road, Sweeny, Texas 77480
