Griffin Funeral Home West Monroe, LA July 19, 2024
Funeral Services for Mr. James Arlington Evans will be Monday, July 22,
2024 at 11:00am at Griffin Funeral Home of West Monroe. Visitation will take
place Monday, July 22, 2024 from 9:00am to 11:00am at Griffin Funeral Home.
Mr. Evans was born in Ethel, Mississippi on January 4th, 1944. He graduated
Ethel High School on may 25, 1961. He later graduated Mississippi State
University with Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering in January 1971.
After Graduation, he took his new wife and moved to Corinth, Mississippi and
took a job at Wurlitzer Organ Company as Design and Development Engineer. He
Resided in Corinth for eleven years. While in Corinth, he was a member of
Oakland Baptist Church. In 1973 He started the North Mississippi Bass Masters
fishing club and served as its president for five years. As president, he along
with other members sponsored an annual tournament raising money for the
American Cancer Society. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid wildlife and
fisheries advocate and wrote a weekly column on fishing tips for Mississippi
Outdoorsman magazine.
On October 30, 1976, he became a father. His wife gave birth to twin sons,
James Andrew and Alexander Ford, and on December 11, 1980, they had a daughter
Susan Farrell.
In 1982, he took a job with National Industries in Montgomery, Alabama, but
made his home in Prattville, Alabama. At National, he directed a group of
engineers responsible for new product design and development. While in
Prattville, he continued his fishing. He was a charter member of Glenwood
Baptist Church and along with his sons, he helped to build the church sanctuary
.
In 1992, he took a position at the Department of Defense as Project Engineer,
Stationed in Vicksburg, MS. He made his home in Tallulah, LA, As Project
Engineer, he invented many devices that improved waterways, dams, and levees
under the Corps of Engineers. This included the registration of over fifteen
patents. Mr. Evans retires from the Department of Defense in January of 2019
and made his home in West Monroe. He was a loving husband and devoted father
and grandfather. He loved fishing and greatly enjoyed his family
get-to-gethers. He was loved dearly and will be missed.
Mr. Evans passed from this life on July 17, 2024 at the age of 80. He is
preceded by his wife Linda Hattaway Evans; mother, Bonnie Nowell Evans; father,
Arlington Ford Evans; and brother, Billy Ford Evans.
He leaves behind his son, James Andrew Evans and wife Michelle; son Alexander
Ford Evans and wife Stacey; daughter, Farrell Evans Lewis; grandchildren,
Collin Evans, Lana Evans, Michael Lewis, Ethan Evans, Elizabeth Evans, Morrigan
Lewis, Katie Lewis, and Donald Kirk; brother-in-law, Johnny Sansore; and a host
of nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was loved by many and will be truly missed.
Pallbearers will be Sam Kennedy, Garrett Holley, Chaz Hattaway, Taylor
Hattaway, Collin Evans, Michael Lewis, Ethan Evans, and Chuck Henson.
