Funeral service for Mr. Arlen Ray
Gardner, 78, of Monroe will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at
the First United Methodist Church of Monroe with Dr. Larry Stafford
officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Silver
Cross Cemetery in Tallulah, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn
Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe.
Mr. Gardner was born on January 31, 1934, in Benton, LA and passed away on May
19, 2012, at Glenwood Senior Care Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Louis Steven
Gardner.
A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Gardner is survived
by his wife of 55 years, Bettye
Shoemaker Gardner; daughter, Cheryl Arlene Gardner Carr and husband Ronald;
granddaughter, Brittany Carr; brother-in-law, John D. Hill; sisters-in-law,
Barbara Gustafason, Joy Shoemaker, Mary Shoemaker and
Sue Shoemaker; and many beloved nieces, nephews and special friends, Marina and
Chris Sarpy, and their son, Dylan.
Mr. Gardner graduated from Tallulah High School where he was a member of the
state championship football team. He played football at Northeast Louisiana
State College. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Education and later a
Master's degree in Administration from ULM, he was a
member of the "N" Club, the ULM Booster Club and the ULM Alumni
Association.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, he was a member and past
president of the Anna Gray Noe Sunday School Class.
Mr. Gardner retired from the Human Resources Department at LSU Medical Center
in Monroe in 2003. Local community involvement included past president of the
North Monroe-Lakeshore Lion's Club and membership in the Society of Human
Resource Managers.
Pallbearers will be Andy Hartwig, J. Kermit Hill,
Mark Hill, Rodney Moore, Chris Sarpy and Richard Shoemaker.
Honorary Pallbearers will be James Corneilus, Dr.
Paul Kapp and Carey Pearson.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Monroe.
Our heartfelt thanks goes to: Dr. Michael Sampognaro, Dr. Greg Sampognaro,
and Dr. Frank Weinholt.
