October 27, 1936 ~ August 18, 2024 87 Years Old

 

Dale Pipes Jones was called home to be with our Lord on Sunday, August 18, 2024. He was born on October 27, 1936. The service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the First Methodist Church in Tallulah, La. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Henry Stone and Michael Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah, La., under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Dale was born in Monroe, La. and moved around with his grandparents before they settled in Shreveport, La. He married Lou Ann Wilkins in 1962. He graduated from La. Tech and then from New Orleans Theological Seminary. He was a minister of music for several years in different churches in Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas. He decided to try his hand at teaching and began his career in Shreveport, La. Dale had several jobs in his lifetime, but his absolute favorite was teaching. He taught at Baptist Christian Academy in Shreveport, McCall Senior High in Tallulah, and Chatham High School before he retired. He moved to Tallulah in 1972. He was a member of First Methodist Church in Tallulah and was a faithful member of the Men’s Bible Class.

Dale was very serious about his Christian faith and made sure that he shared his faith with his family and friends. He enjoyed telling stories of his past with anyone who would listen. He greeted everyone with a smile and was willing to help anyone at any time. Dale loved to read his Bible and study World War II air war history. In years past, he loved to hunt and garden, also.

Dale is preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Lila Pipes, his stepfather, Harold Jones, his mother, Doris Pipes Jones, and his son-in-law, Paul Fortenberry. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lou Ann Jones; brother, Ric Jones (Margaret), niece Heather (Mark) McGary; brother, Harold Jones (Vicky); son, Dale Allen Jones (Tammy); grandchildren, Vanessa Staton (Rustin), great grandchild, Mary Staton; grandchildren, Rebecca Lamar (Shade), great grandchild, Henry; daughter, Tracey Fortenberry; grandchildren, Chelsie Brown (Jacob), great grandchild Georgia; grandchildren Luke Fortenberry (Hope), Hayley Fortenberry (fiancé Dylan), and Summer Fortenberry; son Michael Jones (Terri), and grandchild Faith.
