James Allan Laird -
Madison Parish, Louisiana
July 23, 1943 - February 3, 2021
From Cox
Funeral Home Delhi, LA February 7, 2021
James Allan Laird, 77, of Delhi, Louisiana passed away on February 3, 2021.
Allan was born on July 23, 1943, to the late Jesse and Beulah Laird of
Tallulah, Louisiana.
A graduate of
Tallulah High School, he attended Louisiana Tech University on a track
scholarship. After graduation, Allan spent 33 years working for the State of
Louisiana and retired as the Regional Administrator of Juvenile Services. After
retirement, Allan could be found in his woodworking shop carving wildlife
scenes and building anything from deer stands and boats to mantles and toys. He
was an avid outdoorsman and cherished the time with family and friends in a
boat or in the field. He maintained his loyalty for Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and
could be found tailgating with his family at most football games, home and
away.
Allan met Anna LaPrarie while attending college and they married on August 13,
1965. They were blessed with a long and happy marriage of 55 years. He is
survived by his wife, Anna Laird; his three siblings, Gene (Lynell) Laird, Ann
Kukor and John Laird; his two children, Lesley (Todd) Free and Leigh (Bryan)
Cordill; his five grandchildren, Ashley (Tyler) Martin, Emily (Joseph) Stogner,
Allie (Ethan) Welch, Caleb Free and Anna Beth Cordill; and his three great-grandchildren,
Audrey, Oliver and Finn Stogner.
Allan was an amazing husband, father, Pop, brother and friend to many. His
greatest gift was investing quality time and guidance in youth. He was a long
time member of Delhi First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and
taught Sunday School in youth and adult departments.
While only a private family service will be held, those wishing to donate
memorial gifts are asked to make those to either the First Baptist Church of
Delhi roofing fund, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or Seeker Springs Ministry.
Local arrangements are being handled by Cox Funeral Home of Delhi.
