A funeral service for
Mr. Vernon Lewis will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 2:00p.m. at Downs
Funeral Home. Bro. Pete Sellers will officiate the service. Interment will be
held at Colonial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to
the service from 1:00-200 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home.
Vernon Lewis, 71, of
Marshall, Texas was born on March 14, 1949 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to his
parents, Charlie and Beatrice Lewis. Mr. Lewis passed away on February 7, 2021
in Shreveport, Louisiana. He grew up in Tallulah, Louisiana, after serving in
the Vietnam War he relocated to Houston, Texas for a few years. Vernon moved to
Marshall, Texas in the mid 1970’s where he called home. He was a member of
River Crossing Cowboy Church and was the president of Quapaw Hunting Club for
several years. Vernon had a BBQ Barn in Marshall for many years. He loved his
horses and cows.
Mr. Lewis is survived
by his wife, Judy Lewis; children, Mike Lewis, Jake Rich, Audra Huddleston, and
Jess Rich; sisters, Becky Amos, Sybil Ashley, and Francis Rinicker;
grandchildren, Ty Lewis, Kolton VanHuss, Jody White, Haylie Rich, Coby Rich,
Maegan Huddleston, Zachary Huddleston, Jake Huddleston, Christopher Huddleston,
Cade Rich, and Emersyn Rich; great-grandchildren, Avree Lewis, Lettie VanHuss,
and Jake Coe. He is also survived by Donna Lewis, Maria Lewis, Lisa and Butch
Terrell, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lewis is preceded
in death by Charlie Lewis, Beatrice Box Lewis, Ray Lewis, Grady Lewis, Kenneth
Lewis, Phillip Lewis, Mildred Lewis Gentry, and Charlene Lewis Broussard.
