Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Alcus O’Neal Maxwell, Sr., her son, Alcus O ”Neal” Maxwell, Jr., parents, W.T. “Tom” and Birta (Brown) Antley, Sr., siblings: Ollie Jones, Hazel Nichols Crow, Christine Martin; W.T.“Pete” Antley, Jr., R.L. “Shorty” Antley, and Douglas “Hotshot” Antley. She was the last aunt on the Antley and Maxwell side.

Maxine was born and grew up in rural Richland Parish, the daughter of a farmer, and homemaker. She attended Robinson Baptist Church in Dunn Community with her family.  Her dad was the song leader and it was here that she accepted Christ.  As a teenager she learned the skill of sewing which enabled her to become an exceptional seamstress. She was a 1952 graduate of Delhi High School. Maxine married her high school sweetheart, Alcus, December 21, 1952. They were married almost 70 years before Alcus’ passing. They made their home in Tallulah in 1955. She was a member of First Baptist Church Tallulah and attended over 40+ years. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon’s wife, Girls in Action Leader, camp chaperone, and in other areas as needed. Alcus and Maxine both made sure their children attended church and led them to accept Christ.

Maxine loved talking with Bro. Jay about her faith, the “olden” days and just for him to pray. She loved her church families, both FBC, and Parkview (during the years they attended)

Maxine enjoyed annual vacations with Alcus and their children for many years through camping and exploring over 27 states, national and state parks. Maxine was a mom and housewife.  When her children were in elementary school, she decided to further her education.  She was a 1968 graduate of the first class, Hinds Junior College Nursing School through Mercy Hospital, Vicksburg, Ms., as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She loved helping people and being a nurse working at Delta Haven Nursing Home and Madison Baptist Nursing Home for over 15 years.  During that time she also opened “Maxine’s Fabrics”. It was here that her seamstress talent spread, being sought after for pageant dresses, wedding ensembles, and other events as well as her own clothes, her children and grandchildren.

She always said sewing gave her “peace and alone time”. Maxine joined the US Postal Service serving in several positions before retiring as a rural letter carrier in March, 2004, with 24 years of service. She was a proud member of the National Rural Letter Carrier Association. She recently celebrated a surprise 91st birthday while in the hospital. She was overwhelmed by the love and kindness shown by the staff, family, and friends.

Maxine was a loving and faithful wife, mama, mamaw, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who will be greatly missed. Her legacy will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly and was so proud to brag about.

Maxine is survived by her daughters: Glenda Maxwell Cockrell (Mike) Hot Springs, AR; Sandra Maxwell Laughman (Len) Tallulah, LA;  3 grandchildren: Daphne Hosler, Brandon Laughman (Lauren); and Candace Cockrell Skaggs (Trey); 5 great-grandchildren, Sophie, Lilly, Camden, Eliza, and Ollie; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Special thanks to Bro. Jay & Misty Parker and son, Joel, for being good neighbors, their many kind deeds, and just being there for her and us Thank you to our special “family” friends, Karen Busby, and James Cooley, for loving and caring for her needs no matter how crazy they were. Thanks to friends Sue Hester, for being there when she first needed a sitter, and Nora Jackson, her housekeeper. Thank you to FBC for welcoming her back home, for all your love, prayers, and support. Thank you to the grief committee for our family lunch.

Thank you to all the staff at the Madison Parish Hospital - Dr. Perry, Rehab Swing Unit-Rehab, Delhi Clinic, Dr. Wagnon, St. Francis Hospital, Delhi Home Care and Delta Community Action for the loving care shown to our mama over the years.
