Funeral Home Tallulah, LA September 10, 2024
October 18, 1942 ~ September
9, 2024 81 Years Old
Patrick T. Murphy, a lifelong servant of his community and passionate
advocate for progress, passed away on September 9, 2024, at the age of 81. Born
on October 18, 1942, Terry spent over 40 years dedicated to counseling, administration,
workforce development, and community betterment. His profound impact on Madison
Parish and the surrounding areas will be felt for generations.
Terry’s professional career began in the Louisiana Technical College system,
where he served as Director for over four decades. During his tenure, he was
instrumental in shaping the institution and creating opportunities for
individuals to improve their lives through education and technical training.
Following his time in education, Terry became the Executive Director of the
Madison Parish Port, a position he held until his passing. His leadership and
vision helped drive economic growth in the region, and his tireless work for
the betterment of the community was a defining feature of his life.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Terry served from 1965 to
1967 during the Vietnam era, where he demonstrated the same leadership and
dedication that would define his civilian career. He earned his Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration and a master’s degree in student Personnel
Services from Northwestern State University. His commitment to education and
leadership was further demonstrated when he was invited to attend the Oxford
University World Leader Summit in 1994 and took part in the ACCLAIM Leadership
Advancement Program at North Carolina State University in 1997.
Beyond his professional life, Terry was deeply engaged in civic life in
Tallulah, Louisiana, serving as a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 55. He
cherished outdoor adventures, leading his scouts on expeditions from the
mountains of Northern New Mexico to the boundary waters of Canada. His love for
bass fishing and duck hunting was well known, and his outdoor passions
reflected the spirit of adventure and connection to nature that marked his
life. He also served as President of the Tallulah Rotary Club, The
Chamber of Commerce, and the Tallulah High School Quarterback Club. His
dedication to his faith led him to serve on the St Edward Catholic Church
Council, further demonstrating his commitment to service and leadership.
Terry was a man of many talents and deep intellect, with a love for debate,
conversation, and learning. He enjoyed discussing a wide range of topics, often
over a glass of bourbon, and his sharp wit and big heart made him beloved by
many. His legacy is one of service, commitment, and a genuine love for people.
He worked tirelessly to give others the chance to better their lives,
especially those in Madison Parish, where his heart always remained.
Terry is survived by his wife, Frances "Susie" Johnson Murphy; son,
Chris Murphy (Laurie); daughter, Katie Murray (Cameron); grandchildren, Lilah
Murphy, Malachi Murphy, Sean Murphy, John Murphy, Millie Murray, Maddie Murray,
and Cecilia Beavers; brothers, Mickey Murphy (Joy), Tim Murphy (Judy), and
Kevin Murphy (Janet); and sister, Bridget Bagley (Jerry); numerous friends; and
the countless individuals whose lives he touched through his work and civic
involvement. His presence will be deeply missed, but his contributions to his
community and his enduring spirit will live on.
Services for Terry will be held Friday, September 13, 2024, at St. Edward
Catholic Church in Tallulah, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM
followed by the service at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at 12:00 PM at Northeast
Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville, Louisiana.

Tonore, Jamie Howington, and Mike Sidders.
