Howard
Devone Payne, Jr., 68, of Little Rock, died Monday,
March 8, 2010 after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. He was a
devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born February 7, 1942
in Winnsboro, Louisiana to the late Howard Devone
and Delores Payne.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Charlotte Payne; his daughters, Dee
Payne Chapman (Wink), and Shelly Payne Martin (Bobby) and son, Howard (Trey) Devone Payne III. Grandchildren are Claire Chapman,
Winston Chapman III, Payne Martin and Parker Martin. He is also survived by
his brothers, Robert Charles Payne (Donna), Joe Beck Payne, and Andy Payne
(Anna).
He played football for ULM in Monroe, Louisiana. He spent time on the rodeo
circuit team, roping and steer wrestling before beginning his career with Snelling. He started Snelling
over 40 years ago and has built a respected reputation for his honesty,
character and integrity. He was honored by Snelling
with the first Legacy Award ever presented. He also served on the Board of
Directors of the Franchise Advisory Council.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
He had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church
for over 39 years.
Visitation 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11th at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501)224-8300.
Services will be on March 12th at 2:00 p.m., at Immanuel Baptist Church with
burial to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
