A service in remembrance of Joe Beck Payne will take place Monday, November 25th, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 1:00 until 2:00pm with a memorial service starting at 2:00pm at the funeral home.

Joe Beck Payne passed away peacefully on Friday, October 18th.

Born in Delhi, Louisiana, and a native of Monroe he was the third of four boys born to Coach Howard Devone Payne, Sr. and Dr. Delores Beck Payne. The family moved to Natchitoches during Joe Beck’s early high school years where he graduated from Natchitoches High School in 1970. A gifted athlete, Joe Beck was an integral member of the Natchitoches High Red Devils football team, making First Team All-State, and winning the 1969 state championship.

He went on to attend Northwestern State University to play football for the Demons. He graduated from Northwestern State with a Bachelor’s Degree.

Joe Beck began his career in farming before transitioning into the insurance industry where he spent more than two decades as an award-winning agent for State Farm.

Joe Beck always looked forward to catching up with his former teammates at the annual Red Devil State Championship team reunion. He also made life-long friendships during the years he spent playing on McCrory’s softball team. In the last twenty years of Joe Beck’s life he spent time living in Dallas, TX and Kansas before returning to Louisiana. He loved spending time outdoors with his dogs and hunting. However, Joe Beck loved nothing more than spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.

Joe Beck is preceded in death by his mother and father; and his brothers, Devone Payne and Robert Charles Payne.

He is survived by his sons, Dylan Payne and his wife, Courtney, of Kansas City, MO; and Scott Payne and his wife, Shannon, of Sun Valley, ID; his four grandchildren, Sophie and Sutton of Kansas City, and Andie and Hopper of Sun Valley; his brother, Andy Payne and his wife, Anna, of Many; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Payne, of Little Rock, AR, and Donna Payne, of West Monroe; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Demons Unlimited Foundation. Donations by check can be mailed to Demons Unlimited Foundation, NSU Athletic Fieldhouse, 468 Caspari St., Natchitoches, LA 71497, or memorial donations by credit card by calling Mr. Scott Maggio, Assistant AD for Development and Corporate Sponsors, at 318-357-4560.

NOTE: According to his mother Joe Beck Payne was born six months before the Paynes left Tallulah. That’s enough to make him a “native.” RPS 10/23/2024
