Mary McGrew Lancaster Pippen passed away peacefully at home in Delhi, LA
on Friday, April 5, 2024.
Mrs. Mary graduated from high school in Tallulah, LA She met her latehusband,
Emmett Lancaster in Tallulah and they were married for more than fifty years.
Later she married Mr. Harvey Pippen and they remained married until his death
fifteen years later.
Mrs. Pippen was employed as a telephone operator during the time callers had to
have the operator connect each call. Because Mary loved people, she enjoyed her
years with Southern Bell and her later work in banking and insurance.
After retirement, Mary contributed to various civic projects in the town of Tallullah,
for which she received a plaque of appreciation from the mayor.
She was a member of the Tallulah Methodist Church where she was active in
the UMW.
Mary had an adventurous spirit and was more than glad to drop everything for a
last minute trip with friends or family.
She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Erwin McGrew, her mother
Launa Cortez Borders, and three brothers Tommy McGrew, J. C. “Kag” McGrew, and
W. R. Borders.
She is survived by her daughter Launa Martin and husband Steve of Delhi, granddaughter
Lyndsey Martin, and great granddaughter Harper Elizabeth Davidson of Metairie.
Other survivors include siblings Laura Geese (Freddie) from Tyler, TX, Tamara
Trahan (Daniel) of Lafayette, LA, and Tully Borders (Joy) of Kilgore, TX, as
well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Mary was truly accepted and loved by the family of her second husband Harvey
Pippen. She was pre-deceased by stepsons Harvey Jr. and Wes Pippen, and step-grandson David Brownstein. Surviving her are step-daughter Jean Pippen Nesbit (Lamar) of Jackson, MS,
step-son Charlie Pippen (Lynne) of Ruston and several great and great-great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Crossroads Hospice for their comforting care during
Mary’s illness. They also want to acknowledge the ladies who were sitters but
became like family: Pam Henderson, Maudie Neathery, Faye Carter, and Glenda
Leggins.
There will be a graveside service at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 13,
2024 at the Masonic Cemetery of Delhi led by Rev. Marshall Sevier and under the
direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi. All friends and family are welcome.
