Sandra Lea Wiggins Ralston - Madison Parish, Louisiana
Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Little Rock, AR
 May30, 2024

Sandra Lea Wiggins Ralston, 78, of El Dorado went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 28 at the South Arkansas Regional Hospital in the Life Touch Hospice Unit.

Sandy, as she was called by all who loved her, was born in Tallulah, La., on August 11, 1945, to Dollie Mae Parker Wiggins and Wyatt Otto Wiggins.

She attended public schools in Tallulah graduating from THS in 1963. She attended Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, now Louisiana Tech University, where she received her Education degree in 1967. Shortly after graduation she married John Ralston and they were blessed with two beautiful and talented daughters who gave them six fabulous grandchildren.

Sandy began her teaching career at Smackover High School and retired in 2007 from El Dorado High School. In between those years, she and good friend Nancy Varnell founded Bright Beginnings Day Care and Kindergarten, and she also taught at Rogers Junior High. She loved teaching, reading, and loving her grandchildren who called her Nana, and oh how she loved them! She was a longtime member of the College Avenue Church of Christ where she taught the two-year-old Sunday School class for a period of time. She would not miss a Sunday without a king's spread on the table and made sure the grandchildren took plenty home with them.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Betty Jean Oldham; and brothers, Wyatt Otto Wiggins II, William "Bill" Oldham, and Harold W. Oldham. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John; daughters, Jennifer Ann and Steve Miller, Julie Annette and Josh Jones, all of El Dorado; sister, Bertha Jordan and Kenneth of Conway, Ark.; and her six wonderful grandchildren she was so very proud of, John Michael Miller of Fayetteville, Addison Miller and Jesse Fite of Conway, Jackson and Jace Fite of El Dorado, and her favorite granddaughter, Melanie Miller of College Station, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the John G. & Jesse G. Ralston Scholarship Fund, c/o Union County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 148, El Dorado, Ark. 71730, or the donor's choice.

Visitation will be Saturday from 12:30-2 p.m., followed by a Celebration of her life at 2 p.m., at Young's Funeral Directors Chapel. Brother Jonathan Long will be officiating and pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Entombment will be private.

Condolences can be expressed at www.youngsfuneralhome.com for the Ralston family.
