Ed (Carol while in Tallulah) was born January 17, 1927 on a cotton
plantation just east of Epps, LA and entered into rest May 17, 2022 in Minden,
LA, Ed spent most of his youth on cotton plantations near Mounds, LA, moving to
Tallulah in 1939, where he completed his freshman and sophomore years at
Tallulah High School. In June of 1942 Ed and his family moved to Minden where
he completed his junior and senior years at Minden High School, graduating in
1944. After working for Peoples Bank & Trust Co. for four years, Ed moved
to Los Angeles, CA where he was employed by Southern California Edison Company.
He met and married Donna Stratton in 1951 in Ventura, CA. He spent ten years
with Edison before moving on to employment with General Motors Corporation.
After working for GM in Southern CA for approximately ten years, Ed was
transferred to Michigan for the remainder of his career with GM.
After retiring from GM in 1987, Ed and Donna moved back to California,
settling in Santa Maria. Then in 2002, they moved back to Ed‘s hometown of
Minden, LA.
Ed was preceded in death by his son, Bruce in 2011, his father and mother,
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Ritchie, Sr., brothers, C.M. Ritchie, Jr., Frank, Jack,
Leon, Shelly and Andrew. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Donna,
daughter, Ann who lives in Fullerton, CA, grandsons, Donald and Douglas and
three great grandchildren. After moving back to Minden, Ed spent
considerable time in volunteer work with First United Methodist Church of
Minden. He served on most Boards and Committees and enjoyed his time in this
capacity.
