J. David
Sessions of Slidell, Louisiana, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and
friend died Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the age of 64.
David was
born on March 10, 1951, in Marks, Mississippi, to Raymond A. and Thelma Jones
Sessions. He grew up in Tallulah, Louisiana, and attended Tallulah High School
where he was an accomplished athlete lettering in football, basketball, and
track and field. Following high school, David attended Delta State University
where he was a member of the football team and graduated with a Bachelor's
Degree in Education. He later went on to receive advanced degrees from the
University of North Alabama and Southeastern Louisiana University. David was an
educator for 40 years. His early years were spent coaching football at
collegiate and high school levels before moving to Saint Tammany Parish in 1985.
There he continued to be a teacher, coach, and administrator for 30 years. In
1978, he married Carolyn (Tune) Munson of Clinton, Louisiana. Together, they
had two children. David had many passions but none greater than spending his
weekends in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, cheering on his beloved Crimson Tide. When he
was not there, you could find him entertaining his friends, working in his
yard, and later in life spending time with his grandson.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, his brother Samuel D. Sessions, and his
father in law Dr. R. K. Munson. David is survived by his wife of 38 years,
Carolyn Munson Sessions; children, Kathryn Sessions Doyle and husband Charles
Patrick Doyle and Cally Maureen Sessions; Grandson,
Charles Tad Doyle; brothers and sister, Larry L. Holley (Lorraine), Thomas M.
Sessions (Marcia), and Thelma S. LaTour (Billy);
mother in law Kathryn B. Munson; sisters in law, Maureen M. Hays (Doug) and
Kathryn M. Andrews (Billy); brother in law , Richard K. Munson (Arlyn); and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives
and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, from
10:30 am to 11:30 am at Saint Margaret Mary Church; 1050 Robert Boulevard
Slidell, Louisiana, to be followed by a Funeral Mass. Donations can be made in
memory of David to The Children's Hospital at MD Anderson Cancer Center at giving@mdanderson.org.
