Dies; Former Mayor of Tallulah
TALLULAH, La. -
Services for William
P. Sevier Jr., 85, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church
with the Rev. Ed Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Cross
Cemetery under the direction of Crothers Funeral Home.
Mr. Sevier died
Wednesday in Madison Parish Hospital after a short illness. He was a lifelong
resident of Tallulah - a former mayor of Tallulah for 26 years, a past
president and chairman of the board of Tallulah State Bank, a past president of
Louisiana Bankers Association, a past vice-president of American Bankers
Association, past director of Standard life Insurance Company, a World War I veteran,
a member of the American Legion Post 100 of Louisiana, a graduate of LSU, a
member of Sigma Nu fraternity and member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Mr. Sevier was
predeceased by his mother and father, Ada Graves Sevier & William P. Sevier, Sr, two brothers, John G. Sevier
& Barton
M. Sevier, and a sister, Nan Sevier McNeel, all of Tallulah.
Survivors include one
son, Richard P. Sevier (Barbara) of Midland, Texas; two daughters, Mrs.
Sherrill Pirone (Thomas) of Lexington, Ky., and Mrs. Dorothy Elliott (Wayne) of
El Dorado, Ark.; one brother, Jim Sevier
of Tallulah; three sisters, Mrs. Ada Maie Warrick and Mrs. Charlotte
Ziegler both of Tallulah and Mrs. Laura Donald
of Jennings, La.; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be
Robert C. Todd, Wesley Reardon, Shields Bray, A. M. Raley,
Jim Gilfoil, Henry Kinsey Jr., Travis E. McNeil and
Clayton Cox.
Honorary pallbearers will
be the officers, directors and employees of Tallulah State Bank.
