OPELOUSAS - A
Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Margaret White Shoemaker will be held at
2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in
Opelousas. Private interment will follow at a later date. Rev. Perry Hubbs will officiate the services.
Mrs. Margaret was a
native of Tallulah, LA, and was a long-time resident of Opelousas. She passed away
on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas, LA,
after a very lengthy illness at the age of 72.
She was a registered
nurse, the Director of the Nursing Program and a nursing instructor for many
years at the Louisiana Technical College in Tallulah. She loved to read and sew
as a pastime. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was a
loving wife, and a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Because of her love of teaching and sharing knowledge with others, her legacy
will live on through her donation of her body to science for anatomical study
and research. Through this wonderful gift, she will be able to share the study
of myasthenia gravis with others.
Survivors include her
son, Rev. Eddy Shoemaker and wife, Beverly of West Monroe; her daughter, Kara
Shoemaker Elter and husband, Dewayne of Opelousas;
five grandchildren, Anne Shoemaker of West Monroe; Justin Elter,
Danielle "Dani" Elter,
Devin Elter, and Jesse Elter,
all of Opelousas; and one great-grandchild, Cylar Elter of Opelousas. She also has a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and extended family.
She was preceded in
death by her daughter, Joanne Marie Shoemaker; her husband, Jesse Shoemaker;
her parents, Clarence White and June Hetland White.
A family gathering
will be held in the First Baptist Church of Opelousas on Monday, January 20,
2014, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.The family would
like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Prompt Succor Nursing Home and
LA Hospice and Palliative Care for their wonderful care and medical attention.
