Ben Norris Smith, age 61, was called home
to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, in Austin, Texas. He was born
on April 7, 1950, in Delta, La., to the union of the late Ras
Smith and Willie Mae O'Quinn Smith. He was the 10th of 14 children born to this
union.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; and five brothers Larry, Floyd, Leroy, Lethena and Watson. He was laid to rest Saturday, Sept. 10,
in Little Zion Cemetery in Uitca, Miss.
He confessed Christ
at an early age and joined the East Star MB Church in Tallulah, La. Ben's love
of Jesus was shown through his deep rooted love of family and mankind. Ben graduated
from Reuben McCall High School in Tallulah, La.
He retired in 1993,
after a 20-year military career. Ben was an avid lover of golf. He was fondly
known as the Smith and O'Quinn's family photographer.
He leaves to cherish
his memory: his love, Lorraine Smith of San Angelo, Texas; son and daughter
Timothy and Wanne Smith of Austin, Texas; three
sisters, Lee Ethel Davis of Los Angeles, Ladie C.
Rodgers (Gerald) and Ada Lillie (Ray), both of Oakland, Calif.; five brothers,
Wilbert Smith (Evelyn) of Texas City, Texas, Leo Smith (Mary Ann) of Los
Angeles, Lonell Smith of Jackson, Miss., Calvin Smith
(Bertha) of Tallulah, La., and Alvin Smith (Ina) of Spring Hill, Tenn.; four
sisters-in-law, Mona Smith of Chino, Calif., Naniesther
Smith of Fayetteville, N.C., Terri Micou-Smith of
Jackson, Miss., Margarett Dew of Tallulah, La.; two
aunts, Wanda O'Quinn of Jackson, Miss., Ruth Smith of Independence, La.; two
uncles, Robert Smith of Flint, Mich., Alfred Armon of
Jackson, Miss.; and in-laws Dorothy Rozier (mother-in-law),
Fredrick Rozier, Theodore Rozier,
Robert (Barbara) Rozier Jr., Patricia (James) Wright
of Louisville, Ky., Susan (Willie) Burton of Ruleville, Miss., JoAnn (Stephen) Robertson of La Habra, Calif., Jamaal R.
Brown (Godson) of Baltimore; best friends Alfred (Gloria) Branch of San Angelo,
Texas, Clarence Brown of Willingboro, N.J.; and a host of nephews, nieces,
cousins and friends.
