Mr. Richard Harmon
Stockman, Sr. passed away at his home in Tallulah, Louisiana, Sunday, February
5, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born on March 4, 1934, in Jasper County,
Mississippi, to Samuel Sylvester and Sarah Nevada Madlin Stockman. The first
job Harmon had, he walked two miles to plow for a neighbor at the age of 9. His
wages were 50 cents a week! Harmon grew up working very hard. Later, he served
in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict as a sniper. After that, he moved
to Mobile, Alabama to work at International Paper Mill. Harmon has had multiple
jobs including owning a business for years. When he inherited a farm and moved
to Tallulah, his main purpose in life was doing AA work. He helped several
people in numerous ways from giving them a place to stay, a job, or a ride. His
heart’s desire was to help people with addiction problems. He even went to the
prison with AA meetings every Wednesday for years. He served in every service
position in AA, traveling miles to support his AA group and doing AA telephone
work. Harmon would say he had the chance to live two lives in his
lifetime; however, he loved his AA life the best. He found his maker in the
program and tried his best to please Him everyday. Sunday mornings with Charles
Stanley was a must!
Harmon is preceded in
death by his former wife of 27 years and the mother of his children, Betty
Waldrup Stockman; son, Richard Stockman, Jr.; sisters, Eletta Stockman and
Geneva Culpepper; brothers, Samuel Stockman and Roy Stockman; and two nephews.
Survivors include his
daughters, Cindy Tucker, Ginger Brown, and Shannon McCormick; eight
grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be
Toby Wilkins, Cal Trichell, Eddie Foster, Stan Wilson, Phillip Henson, and
Hardy Smith.
