DELTA —
Funeral services for Penny Jester Towne, age 84, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at
Mound Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Simms officiating. Burial will follow at
Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood
Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home
and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service at the church.
Mrs. Towne died Tuesday at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born in
Pioneer, La., and had lived in the Delta area for over 55 years. She was of the
Church of God faith and was a retired town Marshall.
Survivors include one daughter, Cathy Watts and husband John of Tallulah; one
son, Scott Towne and wife Becky of Vicksburg; three stepdaughters, Bobbie
Morris of Pelahatchie, Miss., and Mittie Warren and
Ethel Kendrick, both of Vicksburg; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren;
and six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Wiley G. Towne; two
daughters, Tracey Annette Towne and Bonita Tilden; and one son, Bill Jester.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Antee, Jackie Antee, Troy Antee, Tommy Hanes,
Joey Boyd and Wiley Tilden.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be
made to the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society, P.O. Box 820171, Vicksburg, MS
39182.
