Funeral
services for Mrs. Wilma Rene Averett Whitaker will be held at 11:00 AM,
Saturday, August 20, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Tallulah, Louisiana, with
Bro. Jay Parker and Bro. Jason Lupo officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00
AM. Burial will follow the funeral service at Memorial Park Cemetery in
Tallulah under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Mrs. Whitaker passed
away Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at her home in Tallulah at the age of 90. She
was born May 24, 1932, to Archie and Maryanna Averett. Mrs. Whitaker was a
homemaker. She loved “being a farmer’s wife”, cooking, flowers, and gardening.
She shared her vegetables with her family and friends. She worked as Assistant
Manager of Morgan and Lindsey Variety Store. Mrs. Whitaker was a member of
First Baptist Church. She loved her family and her church family.
Mrs. Whitaker is
preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Maryanna Holloway Averett;
husbands, Robert “Red” Farish and Wesley Edward Whitaker; sisters, Myrtle
McDaniel, Mickey Porter, Anne Wilson, Jimmy Couch, and Doris Pruitt; and
brothers, Billy Earl Averett, Michael Archie Averett, and Archie Averett.
Mrs. Whitaker is
survived by her daughter, Ouida Farish Cassino (Frank); sister, Pat Crews;
brother, Glynn Averett (Barbara); grandchildren, Chris Fuller (Nikki), and
Kelly Fuller Moore (Jason); five great grandchildren; numerous nieces and
nephews; and special friends, Karen Busby, Harold “T-Bird” Murphy, Faye
Maxwell, and Deliah Trichell.
Pallbearers will be
Josh Hoffman, Ed Trichell, Robbie Fortenberry, Cade Fortenberry, Aaron Wallace,
and Edwin Fortenberry. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold “T-Bird” Murphy and
Dalton Fortenberry.
In lieu of flowers,
the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research
Center.
