C. Edith Kuhn
Whitehead - Madison Parish, Louisiana
From the Shreveport
Times, April 25, 2015
Funeral services for
C. Edith Kuhn Whitehead will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at
St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Marshall, Texas. Interment will follow at
Colonial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Whitehead passed away April 22, 2015.
Mrs. Whitehead was
born on the James Plantation in Mound, Louisiana on April 9, 1922. Her parents
were Joseph Jenkins Kuhn and Susan Cora Kuhn of Tallulah. Her parents, a
brother, J. J. Kuhn, Jr. and a sister, Grace Jean Kuhn Kennedy preceded her in
death.
Ms. Whitehead was a
teacher in the public schools of Louisiana, Georgia and Texas for 40 years. She
taught vocal music for 25 years and special education for 15 years. She was an
enthusiastic teacher who missed the classroom even after retirement. She always
believed that the essence of good teaching was to understand the child. She was
proud of having assisted 31 of her students to enter college, and always helped
students wherever she saw a need. In addition to classroom teaching, she also
gave music lessons, concertized, sang some opera, soloed in church productions,
and directed numerous church choirs. From her youth, she was a servant of
Christ, offering Him her gifts of love for people and for music.
Ms. Whitehead is
survived by her children; James Carter Whitehead IV; and Emily Whitehead Hobson
and husband, Al Hobson, Jr. of Marshall, Texas; her grandchildren; Albert
"Trey" Hobson III and wife, Brandi Hobson of Greenville, Texas, and
Dr. David Hobson and wife, Dr. Emily Hobson of Shreveport, Louisiana; five
great-grandchildren; a beloved nephew, Stephen G. Kennedy of Shreveport,
Louisiana and a host of cousins and friends, far and wide.
The family wishes to
acknowledge the devoted services of her doctors, nurses, and other medical
personnel who attended her in her final illness. On-line condolences may be
