Funeral Rites Held For Local Wreck Victim

Funeral services were held Wednesday for Elgie Bennie Williamson of Tallulah, who was killed Monday 
night in a two-car collision on the Mississippi River Bridge. The 27-year-old mechanic was on his way 
home from Vicksburg when he rammed into the rear of a trailer truck driven by Jimmy B. Harvison, also 
27, of Route 3, Lucedale, Miss. Williamson died of a fractured skull and other multiple fractures less 
than an hour after the accident. Harvison was treated for minor injuries at a Vicksburg hospital and 
released early Tuesday. The accident happened about 10:45 p. m. approximately a quarter of a mile on 
the Louisiana side of the river. The state line is measured from the center of the river and the bridge 
is about one and one-half to two miles long.

Funeral services were held at 3 p. m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Rev. 
Herman Savoie officiating. Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery under direction of 
Cupit-Young Funeral Home.

Survivors include his widow,  Mrs. Shirley Ezell Williamson, a daughter, Vivian, and two sons, Elgie Jr., 
and Robert Carl Williamson, all of Tallulah; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Estes Williamson, Tallulah; 
a sister, Mrs. John A. Jennings, Bastrop; two brothers, Stoney Williamson of New Orleans and Carl Williamson 
of Tallulah.

Pallbearers were Bill Eaker, Tony Styron, Bobby McCarty, A. E. Fisher, Jr., Curtis M. Tucker, William Thigpen, 
Jack Dowden and Benny Franklin.
