Bill
passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, June 19, 2015, at his home where
he was surrounded by his devoted family. Always determined to embrace life to
the fullest, he found his greatest joy in being a most loving husband and
exceptional father and grandfather. Bill was an avid golfer, enthusiastic
pilot, amateur drummer, and all around athlete involved in running, swimming,
hiking, and volunteer coaching.
Born
September 28, 1951, in Greenwood, Mississippi, he moved with his family to
Tallulah in 1961. Bill was a graduate of Tallulah High School and Louisiana
Tech University where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. During
his college years, he worked as a summer student employee at Grand Lake Lodge
in Grand Lake, Colorado. There he developed a passion for mountain hiking and
climbing, and more importantly, met Pamela Linscombe of Gueydan, Louisiana, who
became his wife of forty-two very happy years. After graduation, Bill worked at
North Delta Planning and Development in Monroe and then settled in Tallulah
where for eleven years he was engaged in farming his family's Deertrack
Plantation which he continued to supervise. He was employed by Bunge
Corporation for twenty-eight years as Operations Manager in Louisiana and
Mississippi.
Bill
was a life-long member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he served on the
Vestry and was Junior Warden and youth group leader for many years. He was a
past member of the Tallulah Academy Board of Directors, the Tallulah Country
Club and the Farm Bureau boards.
Bill
is survived by his wife Pamela Linscombe Williams; daughter, Sarah Williams
Whitman and son-in-law Trey; son, Jonathan Ford Williams and daughter-in-law
Jamie; mother, Geneva Rountree Williams; brother, Lee Williams; sister, Susan
Schlueter and husband Art; grandchildren: Katherine Ruby Whitman, Lane
Carpenter Whitman, and Luke Murphy Williams; and numerous nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
He
was preceded in death by his father Edward Webb Williams and his brother Lane
Baird Williams. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his many friends, near and
far, old and new. He will be remembered by all for the courage with which he
faced his illness.
Pall
bearers are Matt Adams, Tommy Bishop, Finley Cartwright, Dale Magoun, Kirk
Morley, Leonard "Pop" Neumann, Jim Sevier, and Jim Tucker. Honorary
pall bearers are Billy Abrahm, Calvin Adams, Freddy Gaumnitz, Jason Herr, Bill
Paxton, Charles Roberson, and Walter Scott.
The
family wishes to express their gratitude to Doctors Ruth Frederick,
"Pop" Neumann; R.N.'s Paige Grady, Sarah Vining, Nina Yerger; and
Vonda Mitchell for their compassionate care. The family requests that any
memorials be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church or the American Brain Tumor
