Although normally not viewed as such, telephone books, especially the older
ones, can contain much valuable genealogical and historical data. Many
researchers have located information, otherwise unobtainable, through the use
of phonebooks. In the absence of Census and City Directory information,
phonebooks and certain court records offer about the only additional data about
who lived where when. The first known Tallulah phonebook was published in 1903
and had only 54 entries.
Ideally
it would be great to have Tallulah phonebook data for each five year period
since 1900, especially those years not covered by a census. The 1976
Tallulah phonebook was the first in an effort to hopefully create such a
Madison Parish Phonebook Database. So if anyone has any old phonebooks to loan

The non-PDF-phonebooks are presented in two formats. The name
list shows names just as they appear in the phonebook. In addition the list has
been sorted by address. This address list functions just like a City Directory
and, among other things, shows who is living next to whom on what street. In an
effort to make these lists more personal, most of the federal, state and local
offices and a few business concerns have been omitted. Although phone numbers
are also listed, they have not been edited. Their inclusion is secondary in
importance to the names and addresses. RPS September 2008; November 2011.
