"The petitioner SAMUEL WHITAKER of your aforesaid Parish of Sabine
respectfully represents that he has protected, board educated, and
brought up a boy from his infancy by the name of MARTIN P. WEST of
the age of fourteen years and is a foundling that the parents of said
boy are dead and that he has not tutor or under tutor and it is necessary
to appoint one."
Family meeting held with relatives of the boy and in default of relatives:
JOHN WEST, GADI WEST, LEVI WEST, JOHN FORD, and ELIAS F. PRESLEY,
brother to the said MARTIN.
SAMUEL WHITAKER appointed tutor and R. J. MCLEMORE appointed undertutor.
Note: This is likely record # 1562 listed under SAMUEL WHITAKER but
is in relation to an orphan child he raised. The actual record is
located in Will Book B.
Notes: Martin P. WEST
Martin Penn WEST was b. 1832, a son a Littleberry WEST, Sr. and Eleanor
Carter Langton WEST
Gadi, Levi, and John were son's of Littleberry WEST and his first
wife, Tabitha LNU.

Elias F. Presley, born 19 January 1823, became active in Sabine Parish
public affairs.
He was the first parish tax assessor, 1843-45, and in 1844 a deputy
sheriff as well.
In 1852 he served as secretary of the police jury.
From 1862 to 1864 he was Sabine Parish's representative in the State
Legislature.
He was Parish Attorney in 1871.
Elisa F. Presley died on 11 September 1891.
