Robert Adville Atkins Mon Jan
18 12:33:55 1999
I am trying to locate the final resting place of my paternal grandfather,
Adville Atkins. He and his wife, Laura Virginia Jones, were residents of
Greensburg. Some time after the birth of his eighth child he and Laura
separated, and he moved to Porterdale, Georgia, where he died on September
19, 1923. I have a copy of a telegram to my father Leon, dated September
20, 1923, which says that the body was being shipped to Kentwood and would
arrive there on Sept. 21, 1923. On a recent trip to Greensburg (I live
in New York and don't get to Louisiana that often), I visited the Atkins
plot in the Greensburg Cemetery (the cemetery records show, incidentally,
that the plot was purchased by Adville) but only his wife has a headstone,
along with a few other relatives. The cemetery records are not chronological,
so I was not able to ascertain whether there was a burial on or about September
21, 1923. I see from your web site that there is a book about St. Helena
parish cemeteries, so maybe there is something there. In any case, I would
really like to find out where my grandfather Adville is buried. Any help
you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
