I have just received a book that belonged to my grandmother Flora Kate Colbert nee Clapper. It was given to her in 1889 at Christmas time by her Sunday School Teacher Mrs. F.C. Stewart. It is from Grace Memorial Church, Hammond La. Does anyone know if this church still exists? If it does, is there any way I can get some information from them? Thanks for any help.

BRIDGES, WILLIAM C.
HANLEY, FRANCES CORDELIA (CORA) BRIDGES HANLEY
I have in front a me a copy of a widows blank for reclassification from the state of Alabama which has some information concerning this parish.
My gg aunt CORA BRIDGES was applying for reinstatement of Civil War Pension from her deceased husband, James Hanley of Whistler, Alabama. In this form, she mentions Tangipahoa Parish several times.
EXCERPTS:
WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND DATE: I, FRANCES CORDELIA (CORA) BRIDGES MORRISEY HANLEY was born on February 10, 1864 in TANGIPOHOA PARISH, LA
STATE NAME OF FATHER: William C. Bridges
IF DEAD, GIVE WHEN and WHERE: He died near TANGIPOHOA PARISH, LA in about 1867.
She further states she lived in LA until age 14. Then she moved to Mississippi ( I am assumimg McComb City because on Feb 22, 1880 she married a John W. Morrissey there) and I lived there for 8 years.
She later was widowed. She remarried Jan 15, 1890 to a James Hanley of Whistler, AL
William C. Bridges was married to a Maggie Good (daughter of Roody Good and mother maiden name of Jenkins) in Tangipohoa Parish who married 16 Feb 1859 in St Helena Parish, LA.
William and Maggie had 3 children that I know of:
~ Joseph Nimrod Bridges (my gg grandfather) born 22 Jan 1865 in Kentwood, LA, died 7 Feb 1939 buried in lot # 4, Lot 18 La Belle Section of Hickory Grove Cemetary in Laurel, MS
~ Frances Cordelia (CORA) Bridges Morrisey born 10 Feb 1867 near Tangipahoa, LA; died 1850 Whistler, AL
~ Pinkey Bridges, a son, who might of been born in 1862 and remained in the area working for the railroad.
Cora states the following also:
I lived in Tangipohoa Parish from birth to about 1879.
I then lived in McComb City, MS from 1879 to 1882.
Then I lived in Water Valley, MS from 1882 to 1887.
Then I lived in Whistler, AL from 1887 to July 31, 1928
She then lived in El Paso, TX from 1929 to July 22, 1937
>From 1937 to her death in 1950 she lived in Whistler, AL
Hope someone has some linkage or information about these names.
My block starts with this generation. I can trace both Cora's descendents and my great grandfather Joseph Nimrod's descendents but for Pinkey I have no clues. Also blocked on any other data on gg grandfather William C and his wife Maggie Good.
My email is cuginaarlene@hotmail.com THIS IS THE ONLY CURRENT EMAIL ADDY I am using.
Thanks~

I am working the Durbin family that came to Winn Parish about 1825 from Tangipahoa Parish. The first Durbin to come to Winn Parish was named Jasmes Durbin, born abt 1795. He had a son named James Wiseman Walker Durbin and Skippeth Durbib. I found a Skipeth Durbin in Tangipahoa Parish, born abt 1796, with sons named James and Skippeth. I would like to correspond with decendants or others interested in this family.

I'm having great difficulty tracing the parents
of James Monroe Bamber born 1854 N.O. married to
1) Sarah Rebecca Singleton and 2) Maggie Ellen
Dykes. James was orphaned in New Orleans in the
1860s and put on an oprhan train to Tangipahoa
Parish.
He married 1) Rebecca Singleton about 1874 and
they had the following children:
James 1875 (cardiologist in N.O. - did not marry)
Otto 1879 (evangelist, married Pauline Underwood)
Rosa 1880 (married Arnold Mixon)
Dicey 1883 (married Quincy Kemp)
Hinson 1888 (school board, married Eula Ricks)
Addie 1892 (married Memphis Wilson & moved to AR)
Pierce 1895 (riveter, married Mary Unknown in VA)
Samuel 1896 (merchant, married Edwena Strickland)
Paul 1900 (moved to OH - no other information)
He married 2) Maggie Dykes about 1911 and they
had the following child:
James 1912 (moved to Port Allen - no other info)
Although the Bamber surname no longer survives in
Tangipahoa Parish, some of the Mixons and Kemps
will still share this bloodline, and some will
be from Washington Parish in the Bogalusa area.
Please reply with any information on this family
to jrabalais@usa.net. Thanking you in advance
for your time and attention to this matter,
Jim Rabalais
