Uncle Bill as he was called by both white and black has lived in Winnfield all his life and has gone in and out among the people, working gardens and digging graves whenever the occasion demanded until he occupied a peculiar place in the affections of the people who will miss him since he has gone. Uncle Bill was about 78 years of age and has always been law abiding, never has been known to be guilty of the slightest misdemeanor. For more than fifty years he and Emma Walker have been married and have lived happy lives, faithful to each other. Uncle Bill had some decided views on the divorce question. He believed once married you were married all your life. He was buried in Union Hill Cemetery at the Union Hill Bapitst Church (colored) last Monday. The heavy downpour of rain on that day prevented many white people from here attending his funeral. (Submitted by Greggory Ellis Davies, Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA.)
