Millard Mercer Funeral Services Held Tuesday

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church
for Millard H. Mercer, 86 year old Winnfield Route 2 resident, who was found
dead in a wooded area near his home Monday night.

Mr. Mercer, a native and lifelong resident of Winn Parish, was the object
of a four hour search late Monday, after he walked away from his home in
the Pleasant Hill Community about 1:30 p.m. Monday. He was found face
down in a small branch where he had fallen. Death was attributed to natural
causes, according to the funeral report.

After Mr. Mercer left and failed to return to the house his sister, Mrs.
Charlie Jordan, with whom he resided, made a search then notified Winn Parish
Sheriff's Office. About 300 persons turned out to join the search, and the
body was found about 8:15 p.m. by John Bartlett of Jordan Hill.

Relatives said Mr. Mercer had been bothered with a heart condition and it was
surmised he suffered an attack while walking in the woods.

Sheriff R. S. Jordan expressed appreciation to those who responded to the call
for searchers.
