Wood at his home in Dodson, December 29, 1932 and the death of his wife, Mrs. Wood, Monday, January 2, 1933. Their request upon learning that they were both seriously ill was that they be buried together. Funeral services for both were held at the Dodson Baptist Church, Tuesday, morning at 10 o'clock. Business houses and schools in Dodson were closed and a large body of friends attended the last rites. The Rev. A. H. Cullen and the Rev. Alwin Stokes, of Winnfield, and the Rev. H. B. Hysell, of Hodge, had charge of the services. Thomas Ware rendered a beautiful sold. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Mr. Wood was the son of S. R. Wood and Sarah Little Wood. He was born Oct. 2, 1864 in Sallis, Miss. He joined the Baptist church at Sallis, Miss., at the age of 21 years, serving as deacon in 1907 at Leland, Miss. Mrs. Wood was the daughter of John D. Russell and Mary H. Rainey Russell. She was born March 9, 1865 in Sallis, Miss. Her maiden name was Cordelia Isadora Russell. She joined the Baptist Church at the age of 20 years. Mr. and Mrs. Wood were married in Durant, Miss., March 10, 1885, by the Rev. W. W. Williams. They resided in Dodson and Winnfield since 1918, where Mr. Wood was engaged in railroad work. Besides their five children they have reared five orphans. The surviving children are: W. W. Wood and Sam R. Wood, Jr., of New Orleans; Mrs. Ruby J. Anderson, Winnfield; Ambrose Wood, Winnfield; and Mrs. Dora W. Winnans, Canton, Miss. Mrs. Wood is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Russell Hunt, of Ackerman, Miss. (Note: Wood and Woods is used in the article so I am not sure which is correct. Briley's Cemetery Guide lists Sam. Rufus Woods, Sr., with the same birth/death dates, so apparently WOODS is correct).
