ATTEMPT TO WRECK TRAIN NEAR CHURCH POINT
The Church Point Democrat Mar 3, 1908
An attempt was made last Friday to wreck the O.G. & N.E.
passenger train a few miles south of here. This is the fifth attempt that has
been made to wreck the train since it has been in operation. The attempt would
undoubtedly have been successful had the train not been stopped by a gentleman
who discovered the plot just before its arrival.
A railroad spike had been driven in the joint of the rail so
firmly that it was impossible for the man making the discovery to remove it.
The passenger train was stopped and the spike bent over to one side so the
train could pass over.
The matter was reported as soon as the train reached this
place and a section crew was sent to remove the spike.
It is to be hoped that the parties making these attempts
will be caught and prosecuted.
