Death of Mrs. C. C. Webb. - There departed this life on the 11th of November 
last one of east Ascension's oldest and best-known residents, Mrs. C. C. 
Webb - a woman highly esteemed among her neighbors, friends and 
acquaintances for her attractive personality and numerous beautiful traits 
of character, and one whose passing away created widespread and lasting 
sorrow. Mrs. Webb was before her marriage Lydia Ann Dixon, the daughter of 
W. L. Dixon and Amanda Hayden, and was a native of East Baton Rouge parish, 
where she was born May 27, 1835. Her parents removed to Ascension when she 
was about ten years of age, locating in the Hope Villa neighborhood, and she 
resided continuously in this parish from that time up to the hour of her 
death. She was married to Mr. Webb before the war, and of the children born 
to the happy union four survive - three sons, C. C., W. L. and A. L. Webb, 
all of whom reside at or near Hope Villa, and one daughter, Emma, wife of 
Chris. Evans, of Galvez. She leaves also a brother, W. P. Dixon, a leading 
farmer and influential citizen of Hope Villa, and the present game warden of 
Ascension parish. Two other brothers sacrificed their lives on the altar of 
the Confederacy during the sanguinary struggle between the states in the 
fearful days of '61-'65. "Uncle Print" Dixon, as he is familiarly known to 
his hosts of friends and intimates, was also a gallant soldier of the 
Confederacy.

The end came to Mrs. Webb at the home of her grandson, Nick Brown, at Hope 
Villa, where she had taken up her residence just a short time before, 
following the death of Mr. Brown's wife. Her remains were interred in the 
burial ground at Prairieville on Nov. 12, and the size and character of the 
funeral cortege which accompanied the body to its last resting place, as 
well as the evidences of sincere grief noted on all sides, attested in 
striking manner the high degree of esteem and admiration in which the 
deceased was held by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, and the deep 
sorrow occasioned by her demise.

May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace.
