Apr. 2, 1982 Robert Whitney Robert Anthony Whitney, 36, a life-long resident of Houma, died 2:25 a.m. today. He was a retired self-employed carpenter and a long time building contractor in the area. A WW II veteran, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp in1944, he was a First Sgt in 1945 and received an honorable discharge as corporal in 1946. He was one of the first founders and contractors of Elisian Fields Subdivision. Visitation will be 2 p.m. until 11 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home, resuming 8a.m. Saturday until funeral time. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Holy Rosary Church cemetery. Survivors include his former wife, Una Rhodes Johnson; five; sons, David Paul, Kevin Rory, Randy Mark, Jamie Stehen and Todd Michael Whitney, all of; Houma; four daughters, Sandra W. Chaisson, Debra W. Totina, Laurie LeBlanc and Connie W. Olivier, all of Houma; three brothers, Willie Whitney, of Baton Rouge, Sewele J. Whitney of White Plains, N.Y. and Daniel Whitney; three sisters, Mary Mae Soudlier, Rita Whitney Malbrough and Josephine Pearl Gros; and seven grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Joseph Whitney and Alcina Rhodes Whitney; and one brother, Fay Paul Whitney. Chauvin Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
