Oct. 14, 1983 Ramon Labat Ramon Labat services set for Saturday. Ramon J. Labat, a long-time administrator of Nicholls State University, died Thursday night of a heart attack. Labat, 51, worked at Nicholls since July, 1973. The Vacherie native was an assistant professor of music and the associate director of financial aid at the university. He held a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Southwest Louisiana and a Masters of Education from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He also attended Nicholls State and the University of Mississippi. He was a past president and treasurer of Phi Delta Kappa and a member of the board of Louisiana High School Athletic Association from 73-74. Labat was also a governor's appointee to the Lafourche Basin Levee District from 1972-1980; he was elected secretary by the board of directors for the entire eight-year period. Labat was the principal of Edgard High School from 1966-1973; prior to that he was the band director at that school for almost 10 years. He served in the Army from 1953-1955. As vice-president of the Krewe of Chronos, he was a lifetime honorary member of the Krewe for his service as Krewe captain for three years and co-captain for five. He was also a member of the legislative committee of the Louisiana Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Landry's Funeral Home, Thibodaux. Religious services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sr. Charles Borremeo Catholic Church, St. Charles community, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30-10 p.m. today and 8-10 a.m. Saturday. He was the husband of Anna Mae Ledet Labat; father of Ramona Hymel, Christopher and Keith Labat; son of Neva Oubre Labat and the late Willie Labat; brother of Ronald and Gary Labat. In lieu of flowers, donations to Ramon Labat Memorial Scholarship Fund, Nicholls State University, Thibodaux, La., are preferred. Arrangements by Landry's.
