Peltier, 93 a native and resident of Thibodaux who died Tuesday. During her youth, Mrs. Peltier received a high school education at Mount Carmel High School in Thibodaux, a college education at Louisiana State Normal School (now Northwestern Louisiana University) and attended the Touro School of Nursing. At 20 years old, she was a single woman with a choice of two careers, one in education and another in nursing. She was married to the late Sidney Peltier and had one daughter, Eloise. Mrs. Peltier was the organizer and longtime volunteer for the Lafourche Parish Chapter of the American Red Cross and charter member of Court Anna Maria No. 993 Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Through work with parent-teacher organizations, she spearheaded the establishment of the hot lunch program in the Lafourche Parish Schools. Mrs. Peltier was also instrumental in establishing the first public library in the city while she was a member of the Thibodaux Woman's Club. This achievement earned her the right to be called "Mother of the Thibodaux Library System."
