Funeral Saturday for former school official Venance Roux, a past assistant

superintendent of Lafourche Parish Schools, died Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

He was 91.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph
Co-Cathedral, with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:30-10 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until
funeral time Saturday. Roux, 91, was appointed assistant superintendent
in 1956, a position he held until he retired April 30, 1959.

He also served as principal of Lockport High School for 19 years and was
appointed acting supervisor of schools in 1942. Two years later, he
became a supervisor. In addition to his professional career, Roux served
in many civic organizations throughout the parish.

He was the chairman of the Crippled Children Society, the Junior Red
Cross and the Lafourche Chapter of the American Red Cross.

He was also past president of the Rotary Club of Thibodaux and an
instructor in the Civil Defense organization during World War II.He was
the husband of Opal R. Roux by second marriage and the late Vivian H.
Roux; and father of Jeanne Tipton, Gladys Webre, Doris Richard and Joyce
Jones.

He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
