The date of death has been used to order the file. ======================================================================== December 3, 1987 Mary Elizabeth Mayer Silverberg Funeral set for Mrs. Silverberg Mary Elizabeth Mayer Silverberg, wife of the late Joe Silverberg, a former publisher of the Daily Comet, died at 4:30 this morning. She was 69.A native of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Silverberg moved to Thibodaux in 1946 when her husband and a partner Edward R. Jackson of Thibodaux bought what was then the Lafourche Comet. She was active in numerous civic and school-related activities in Thibodaux.A graduate of Louisiana State University in library science, Mrs. Silverberg established the agricultural economics library at LSU prior to the start of World War II. She continued her library work in Thibodaux on a volunteer basis, overseeing the operations of the library at Thibodaux General Hospital. She was a member of the Houma Duplicate Bridge Club and reached the level of Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. She was preceded in death by her parents Beatrice Mayer and Buffington S. Mayer of Baton Rouge as well as her husband. She is survived by a daughter Mrs. Winston (Jane) Ardoin of Eunice; sons John of Las Vegas, Nev., James of Thibodaux, Jay of Petaluma, Calif., and Joel of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother Buffington S. Mayer Jr. of Baton Rouge; and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday from noon to 2:30 p.m. at Thibodaux Funeral Home in Thibodaux. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in St. John's Episcopal Cemetery in Thibodaux.Memorial donations to the Thibodaux Chapter Friends of the Library P.O. Box 5514, Thibodaux, La. 70302 are preferred.
