Velma Smith

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Bridget
Catholic Church, Schriever, for Velma Brien Smith, 78, a native of Bayou
Blue and a resident of Schriever, who died at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Religious services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at Thibodaux Funeral
Home. Visitation is from 5 in p.m. today and 8 a.m. until funeral time
Thursday at the funeral home. Interment is in the church cemetery.

She was the stepdaughter of Olampe Champagne Brien; mother of Loy Andrew
and Henry Edward Smith, Mrs. Lawrence (Edith) Fanguy, Mrs Robert (Betty)
Odom, Mrs. Charles (Barbera) Hebert and Mrs. Darryl (Catherine)
Fortenberry; and sister of S. T., C.J. Sr., Gordon Sr., and Ireton
Brien. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon L. Smith; and parents,
Sylvester and Esma Thibodaux Brien.Thibodaux Landry Funeral Home is in
charge of the arrangements.
