All rights reserved. ********************************************** Note: This file has been divided into sections representing DATE OF DEATH Because of the method of reporting at that time, only the DAY of burial is given, not the DATE. ============================================================================= FEB 4 1990 Alexander Barbier Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Plaquemine for Monsignor George Alexander Barbier, 69, a native of Thibodaux and resident of Plaquemine, who died Sunday at 2:30 a.m.Visitation is from noon until 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until funeral time Wednesday at the church. Vespers will be said at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church. A wake service is scheduled at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.He was the brother of Lucien Barbier of Vannes, France, and Maurice Barbier of Rennes, France.He was preceded in death by his father, Germain A. Barbier; mother, Lea Rose Renault Barbier; and brother, Marcel Barbier.Barbier had attended the University of Rennes, France, and Tulane University of New Orleans. He was a graduate of Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. He was ordained a priest on Dec 18, 1943 at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. He had served as associate pastor at St. John the Evangelist Church in Plaquemine and as pastor of Our Lady of Peace Church in Vacherie, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in White Castle and of St. John the Evangelist Church in Plaquemine. During the course of his ministry, he served as regional dean, as judge on the Diocesan Tribunal and as a member of the College of Consulters. He was named a Domestic Prelate with the title of Monsignor by Pope John Paul III in 1980.
