Wood Jr., 56, a native of New York City and resident of New Orleans, who died at noon Sunday. He is survived by brother, Peter Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Garland and George A. Wood. After receiving a bachelor's degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and a master's degree from Purdue University, Wood taught at Nicholls State University. In 1964 Wood joined the faculty at the University of New Orleans where he was chairman of the Department of Drama and Communications before he died. Besides teaching, he acted in theatrical productions and movies. He was a member of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Screen Actors Guild. Wood was on WYES-TV's Community Advisory Board and the University Film Association's Board of Governors. In 1976, he won the CINE Golden Eagle Award for his documentary "Galvez."
