Roberta Griffin Verrett, 93, a native of New Orleans and a resident of 
Terrebonne Parish, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013. 

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at New Zion Baptist Church in Houma. 
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Dismissal services 
will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. 

She is survived by her sons, Bishop Arthur Van Verrett Jr., and wife, Gracie, 
and Arnold Jesse Verrett Sr. and wife, Reuna; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-
grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bishop Oscar T. (Viola Carter) 
Griffin; and aunts, Jessie Lockward, who reared her, Sally L. Barrow and 
Dorothy Berger Cox. 

She was the mother of her church and a retired teacher after 33 years with the 
Terrebonne Parish School System. She was president of the Golden Social Aid 
Society, a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a member of J.J. 
Clement No. 15 O.E.S. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Zion Baptist Church. 

Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
